Summary of this tutorial:

This will not work if you site is on WordPress.com.

The simplest way to add a plugin would be to use the plugin search under Plugins, Add New.

There will be a list of the most popular WordPress plugins that you can select from or use the search bar to search for something specific.

If you downloaded a premium plugin then there is a different method you need to use. on the add new secton you would want to use the upload plugin at the top of the page.

On the next page you would then need to upload the .zip file and install and activate the plugin.

While the least beginner friendly you could still use FTP to upload the plugin file to your site.

After connecting your FTP client you would want to go under wp-content/plugins. In there you would want to upload the folder that is no longer a .zip file.

The plugin should now be visible in your plugins section for you to be able to activate.

  1. From Paul Rana, Thanks for this great and simple video. You open doors for those in the dark, much appreciated.

  2. I have the plugin, in the plugin tab, hit activate and NOW WHAT 🙂  How do I take this plugin ("under construction" plugin) and install at the top of my homepage??  will keep searching…

  3. It would be nice to know how to get the correct directory to show up on the right side. I've been having difficulty with that. Also, should I be clearing out previous uploads that are still showing?
