The Suck Bucket: How to Use Time Effectively & Delegate – Chris Jones, Strategic Traction

My name is Chris Jones.

I’m with Strategic Traction.

I’m a certified EOS™ Implementer.

And I get crazy energy from helping people navigate growth and getting better at what they do in their business and their lives.

I’m here today to help you as a leader spend your time more effectively.

Because as a leader we get stuck, we end up over capacity and we end up frustrated and we’re just not getting the return on heartbeats that we need to make our life satisfying.

So I’m going to take you through a little exercise that will help solve that.

It’s an EOS™ too called Delegate and Elevate™.

And you do it when you hit a time capacity or frustration capacity.

And there’s three steps to this.

The first step is make a list of all the things you do every day, every week, every month.

Second of all, plot it on this chart.

All of things do you love doing.

all the things you’re great at doing.

in one of those four quadrants.

And then the third step, the fun step, is to delegate and elevate the bottom side of this stuff.

Give it to somebody else.

Alright? Let’s take a look at this a little bit closer.

What we love doing, what we’re great at.

this is our Sweet Spot, our Unique Ability as Dan Sullivan calls it.

This is what we were just born to do.

Now the bottom right, on the other hand, are things that we don’t love doing and that we’re not great at this is our Suck Bucket.

We shouldn’t be doing this kind of work.

We don’t get energy from it.

We don’t love doing it.

And we’re not even that good at it.

So why are we doing it? Here’s the cool part of this.

Your Suck Bucket is somebody else’s Sweet Spot! I know what’s hard to believe that somebody else gets energy from doing this work that sucks the life out of you.

Not only do they get energy from it they’re really good at it so why are we doing it? So the whole idea: Delegate and elevate to our own Unique Ability.

Utopia.

can you imagine if all of our time was spent in our Sweet Spot doing what we’re really good at and what we love to do? Even better, imagine our entire company is operating this way where everybody’s doing what they were born to do.

Imagine the energy in that place and the productivity would be off the charts.

So that’s the exercise.

Simple as that.

When you hit time capacity, when you get frustrated, do this exercise.

Identify what’s in your Sweet Spot.

Delegate the stuff on the lower side, especially that stuff in your Suck Bucket.

I promise everyone around you will thank you.
