A load of bull. If you can do the work, you’ll get the job, sooner or
later.
Software Architecture Fundamentals Part 1 – Understanding the Basics
Favorite part so far, is in the second video, Architecture Soft Skills –
“Understand the political climate of the enterprise and be able to navigate
the politics”.
It’s an important principle, because it leads to a negative recommendation.
I.e., if this is true – if this is required, to be an effective software
architect – then I will always want to be a ‘mere’ programmer, and not get
directly involved in software architecture, in this sense.
However, even for those uninterested in this level of analysis, this is
still a good video series to view. Most of us in any large firm, have to
deal with architects, even if their official title says something else. It
doesn’t hurt to have a glimpse into their perspective, to be able to
communicate better.
Also, I can guarantee you, your manager/team leader/micromanaging butthead,
won’t take it personally, if you recommend the series to them. Doesn’t
hurt, can only help.
The video series itself, is very approachable. Thanks, Neal and Mark.
