In a stunning display of legal acuity a sole, tireless lawyer has beaten back 160,000 parking tickets on both sides of the Atlantic since last fall. According to Fusion, the “lawyer” actually doesn’t tire at all…because it’s a chatbot. DoNotPay.co.uk is the brainchild of Joshua Browder. He’s a 19-year-old British student at Stanford, who got a lot of parking tickets when he lived in London. But he boned up on the subject and figured out how to beat parking tickets. He started doing it for friends, and then decided it would make a great school project if he turned his skills into a piece of software. Apparently it’s worked quite well. Browder said that the bot has beaten 170,000 tickets successfully in London and New York. Assuming that those tickets are on average $60 each, this bot has collectively saved people around $10 million.
